Amazon finances S3 User

This is a cool modell to setup a portfolio. Smart Move! Amazon is doing a good job again!

Animoto one of the second wave widget start-ups in us got financing by amazon. They are S3 users as well. This an other modell to setup tech portfolios and technical due dilligence will be delivered by the investors ;-)

This is an other major new way within the investor space, after bay partner´s facebook only fund about 100$mil and KPBC 100$mil for iPhone Widgets this year.

Would love to know the size of the "S3 Fund"!

Btw: I am lead angel investor of animoto´s  european competitor, the german imageloop (via iSteps Widget Ventures).

Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco

Tuesday 22th, first expo day and night:

had a good talk with a us based widget company we gonna invest in. Will write more about in may.

Was at the clearspring and rockyou party in the evening and met lots good widget people there.
Had a good japanise dinner with view web 2.0 people after that.

widgets are realy discussed everywhere and slide.com, rockyou, clearspring and gigya are definitly on the top of the widget wave. the us player are fare away from the european player and they play it realy fast. in the same time
the combinations of traffic, content and transaction exchange challenges my european friends, they still think to much in 1.0 rules.

here a sfo party picture :-)

Myspace Developer Platform, launch in London

Spent my Thursday afternoon and Friday in London. Meet some friends and visted the official launch party of Myspace's Developer Platform. Sources: developer.myspace, developer blogs

The conclusion of the event is, that the competition to attract widget and app developers on top of social-networks is getting harder. In the future the influence on the independent value added developers will be key for the social-networks. With myspace and facebook there are now two major player trying to organise these forces and local players such as germany's studivz haven´t even got started yet.

Exciting times for Widget companies!

Myspace is strategically coming at the right time, can't say yet if the architecture strategy is right or not. But in the past myspace's open strategy to emmbed apps was a key success factor.

We gonna develop some Widgets on Myspace Developer Platform within our iSteps Widget Venture portfolio companies.
